I’ve been eating tuna salad sandwiches for lunch since I was a little kid.
I used to eat tuna, tomato, and cheese sandwiches almost everyday and if I was feeling really ballsy, I’d ask my mom for a “tuna salad” which was just tuna mixed with mayo and huge chunks of cheddar cheese!
I really branched out. But seriously, I ate that every. day.
Now I like to mix it up a little more with my tuna salad but I still love it and enjoy it often! This tuna salad with pickles and greek yogurt is one of my favourite versions.
Seasoning Tuna Salad for Sandwiches or Lettuce Wraps

When I was a kid, I went for the traditional mayo, salt and pepper. My mother was in charge of preparing it and this was a-okay with me.
Now that I’m older and prefer more intense and tangy flavours, I’ve discovered a few favourite ways to make tuna salad.
Adding curry powder is one of those ways. But today, I will share my tangy, zippy tuna salad with pickles.
The addition of pickled peppers and cucumbers really balances out the mild fishy flavour of the tuna and the creamy richness of the mayonnaise.
To keep this meal light and add even more protein, I use greek yogurt in place of some of the mayo. I never sacrifice all of the mayo (you can feel free to do so) because I am a mayo FIEND!
Feel free to play around with the seasoning quantities or leave out the hot peppers if you don’t like heat (I’ll judge you but, don’t let that bother you 😏).
How to Make Tangy Tuna Salad
The following ingredients are my preferred additions. If you like less or more of something, this recipe is super versatile.
To 1 can of tuna, drained, add:
- 1 dill pickle, diced
- 4 small hot green pickled peppers, or to taste
- 1/4 teaspoon of garlic powder
- 1/8 teaspoon of salt or to taste
- 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper
- 1 tablespoon of red bell pepper, diced
- 1 tablespoon of mayonnaise
- 3 tablespoons of greek yogurt
Mix these all together in a bowl. Top with lettuce, tomato, red onion, more pickle slices, fresh herbs, cheese, or whatever you desire.
For a real treat, try these marinated red onions from my fellow Montreal food blogger Sabine at The Flavor Fiend.
I serve mine as a tuna salad sandwich, in a lettuce wrap, with an english muffin, on crackers, or these diy bagel chips, or just with a fork.
